Have you been pulling out your warm jumpers and blankets and found the moths have got into them? Or do you have a snag or hole you'd love mended? A favourite pair of jeans or pretty dress with a rip? Or has your new puppy discovered your lovely handmade blanket?
This is a workshop package to learn the skills you need to darn them and more.
You can learn:
How to darn knitted, jersey and woven fabric
How to do a quick repair or a high quality repair
The keys to a secure darn
Options to darn visibly or not noticeably.
In this package you will receive:
3hr afternoon workshop
2 extra classes at a time of your choosing to finish off your projects
Wool/thread of your choosing to darn your items (to help me have the right colours, I recommend students send me a photo of their garment/projects beforehand)
Fabric to practice the stitches on
General darning information, including historical applications of different stitches
How to adapt the stitches to suit the individual darns to be completed
Needles, scissors, darning mushrooms, thimbles etc
In this workshop we cover the basics of how to darn including how to hold your work and needle, tension of your stitches and the best versatile darning stitches.
You are more than welcome to work on your own garment/project or practice the stitches on fabric provided in class.
Each workshop will be tailored to the participants and the results you are wanting to achieve. Class sizes are always small so there is lots of individual attention and support.
All materials are provided, or you are welcome to bring your own sewing basket if you that is what you would prefer.
Tea and coffee and freshly baked cake is provided :)
