10 sessions from Thu 17 Oct 2024 [Show]
Overview
This is a 10 week Introduction course to Crochet and Darning, with the last four weeks allowing you to develop your skills further with one of the projects available in class, or work on a project of your choosing. The classes are held in a lovely home studio in Woodford (address details on booking). At each class there will be tea, coffee and freshly baked cake available.
Introduction to Crochet
The first three weeks cover an introduction to crochet where we will go over how to crochet and read patterns and understanding tension and guage. You will have the opportunity to create a couple of small projects, which you can finish at home or in the last four weeks of term. These include a coaster, bag, glasses case etc.
You will have the option of bringing your own yarn and hook (any 4-8ply and 4-5.5mm hook is fine) or you can use or purchase hooks and yarn in class.
Introduction to Darning
The next three weeks we will focus on darning. You will learn the basics of handsewing and repairing woven, jersey and knitted fabric. This will cover how to hand sew, some versitile stitches, and a few different invisible, visible and quick repair techniques.
You are welcome to bring along a garment or fabric something that is torn, ripped or damaged and to work on it in class in the last four weeks as well.
There will be darning kits available for purchase, or you can use the ones in class, or bring your own needle and thread if you already have a well stocked sewing basket at home.
Flexibility
The last four weeks are flexible, with the ability for you to continue working on the projects from the first two sections, or undertake an introduction to Intermediate or lace crochet.
Intermediate Crochet
These will cover further information about patterns, (including AI patterns), how to adapt patterns, and techniques such as colourwork, surface crochet and crochet in the round.
You will have the option to make items like a tea cosy, hot water bottle cover, bag, bookcover or fingerless gloves
Lace Crochet
This will help you understand the difference between full size and lace crochet, covering how to use the fine hooks and thread, tension, reading/locating patterns (inluding antique patterns) and some techniques and styles of lace and attachment methods.
You will be able to make items such as a bookmark, lace trim for a bag, book corner, small doily, lace ribbon or hair bow.
Lace kits are available for purchase in class.
